This very nice and remote town will make the prefect holiday destination. It is the perfect mix of old and new with a very rich and dark history. There is a lot of cultural diversity which spans back as far as 1864. This lovely little town grew very quickly especially during the Second World War this was mainly due to the thousands of Australian, American and other allied forces and allied troops moving into the region of Garrison City. This area was used as a front base for the Pacific area war.
This town is relatively small and quite secluded it has a population of about 75 000 people and it is considered to be the heart of North Queensland. It is the central and focal area of the region and each year this area receives a lot of tourists and visitors. There is so much to see and so much to do; the area has a very nice climate and a laid back lifestyle. The town is rich in heritage and there are a lot of attractions especially in the North of the city and it boast of world class facilities, such as restaurants, shopping malls, theatres and a vibrant night life. It is a charming town and great place to visit.
